Bronchoscopy/rhinoscopy
Services Continued

Visual evaluation of the upper and lower portions of the respiratory system can be performed using rigid and flexible videoendoscopy equipment.  The images obtained during the procedure are magnified and displayed on a television monitor.  Rhinoscopy, evaluation of the nasal passages, is a valuable diagnostic tool in detecting causes of nasal congestion, sneezing, and epistaxis (nasal bleeding).  Biopsy samples for histopathology can also be obtained using this equipment.  Bronchoscopy is the assessment of the trachea and lungs.  It is a diagnostic tool that allows for minimally invasive visualization of the airways as well as a means to obtain samples for evaluation via bronchoalveolar lavage.  We are also utilizing bronchscopy for the placement of intraluminal stents to treat canine patients with severe tracheal collapse.  All of these procedures require general anesthesia.
