GI endoscopy
Services Continued

Using flexible videoendoscopy equipment, we are able to visualize both the upper portions of the gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach, duodenum) and lower portions (colon).  The images obtained by the endoscope are magnified and displayed on a television monitor. Most endoscopy procedures are performed to allow visual inspection of the digestive system and to obtain non-surgical biopsy samples for diagnostic testing.  However, endoscopy is also used as an alternative to surgery in the retrieval of foreign objects from the esophagus and stomach. These procedures require general anesthesia but are not associated with post-procedural pain or healing.
