Ultrasound
Services Continued

Ultrasound is a nonpainful and noninvasive method for evaluating the organs of the abdomen. This allows us to evaluate the architecture of numerous organs including the kidneys, liver, gall bladder, and urinary bladder. Echocardiography is ultrasound evaluation of the heart.  Using ultrasound guidance, fine needle aspirates and guided biopsies of abnormal organs and tissues can also be obtained without surgery.  Abdominal ultrasound and echocardiography require shaving some of the patient’s fur to allow for adequate visualization.  The majority of our ultrasound examinations are done without any sedation, although pets that are particularly painful or anxious may require it.  Patients undergoing ultrasound-guided biopsies all require sedation.
